A Christian Perspective
All of us have a perspective on the nature of life, the nature of God, and the nature of truth that affects how we view the world. Dr. Browns Christian perspective informs his views on health and medicine.
Navigating the Medical Maze is built around practical advice. But in each chapter, Dr. Brown includes a shaded text box labeled A Christian Perspective. These text boxes explain the relationship between a Christian worldview and the medical issues contained in the chapter. One of Dr. Browns motivations in providing this information was to help Christians to be more discerning.
Too often, Christians are the most gullible when it comes to medical claims, when they should be the most skeptical, since they understand the nature of man, Brown says. If I can get Christians to apply Biblical standards of truth in the medical realm, they will avoid much of the deception that is out there.
Brown does have two other hopes for the Christian Perspective sections in Navigating the Medical Maze. I hope that other authors will use Navigating as a paradigm for applying a Christian worldview to secular issues in other fields, such as law or business. I also hope that those who dont share my Christian worldview will see the central role that our beliefs play in how we respond to practical issues.
Whereas the Christian perspective is in the background in Navigating the Medical Maze, Dr. Brown also enjoys discussing and writing about health and other issues from an explicitly Christian perspective. Because of this, he is available to speak on these topics for churches and other Christian groups.
